On page 3, beginning on line 35, after "By" strike all material through "advocates" on page 4, line 15, and insert "January 1, 2025, the attorney general shall prepare and submit to the governor and the legislature a plan to divest the attorney general’s office of all law enforcement and law enforcement-related programs, activities, and involvement. The plan must include the attorney general’s recommendations as to whether each program, activity, or involvement should be transferred to a different agency or terminated entirely"
On page 4, after line 17, insert the following:
"NEW SECTION. Sec. 7. Sections 2 through 4 of this act take effect
90 days after the attorney general issues a written certification to
the governor, the chief clerk of the house of representatives, the
secretary of the senate, the office of the code reviser, and the chief
law enforcement or corrections officer of each law enforcement and
corrections agency in this state, that the attorney general’s office
has been fully divested of all law enforcement and law enforcement-
related programs, activities, and involvement."
Renumber the remaining sections consecutively and correct any
internal references accordingly.
| EFFECT: Strikes the requirement for the Attorney General to develop and publish model policies for law enforcement agency accountability programs.
Requires the Attorney General, by January 1, 2025, to prepare and submit a plan to divest the Attorney General's Office (AGO) of all law enforcement and law enforcement-related programs, activities, and involvement.
Delays the effective date of the provisions in the act relating to the Attorney General's investigative authority and authority to bring an action against a law enforcement or local corrections agency to 90 days after the Attorney General issues a written certification that the AGO has been fully divested of all law enforcement and law enforcement-related programs, activities, and involvement. |
