AN ACT Relating to minimum wages; and adding a new section to chapter 49.46 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 49.46 RCW to read as follows:

          The legislature finds that in order to reverse the effects that inflation has had on the state's minimum wage and to increase the role of minimum wage earners in the state's economy that every employer shall pay each of his or her employees who has reached the age of eighteen years wages at a rate of not less than two dollars and thirty cents per hour.  Beginning May 1, 1985, the applicable rate under this section shall be two dollars and eighty cents per hour, and beginning July 1, 1985, the applicable rate under this section shall be three dollars and thirty-five cents per hour.
