AN ACT Relating to in-service training; and creating new sections.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The climate for learning within our schools is an important ingredient in a child's education.  It is essential that teachers have the knowledge and skills to effectively manage the classroom environment to maximize the use of time for educational purposes.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     An in-service training program shall be designed and carried out by the superintendent of public instruction in consultation with local districts for three days during the biennium.  The program shall be designed to provide instruction to an average of three individuals per school in techniques to identify and improve current levels of academic efficiency and of effective classroom management.  The individuals eligible to attend are teachers, administrators, and teacher aides.  Each school is free to determine the makeup of its team.  On completion of the training, the team shall return to its school and present an in-service training session for the school staff.

          This section shall expire June 30, 1987.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.     Implementation of this act is subject to funds being appropriated or made available for such purposes.
