AN ACT Relating to felons; and adding a new section to chapter 70.48 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 70.48 RCW to read as follows:

          The state shall pay for the costs of incarcerating a felon in a jail for any time the felon serves in the jail, as a part of his or her sentence for committing a felony, that occurs forty-one days after the date on which the judgment was entered.  The commission shall establish a reasonable cost per prisoner day rate for any jail in which felons are so incarcerated.  The state treasurer shall pay the county or city operating the jail for the costs of such incarceration, out of the budget for the department of corrections, on a monthly basis after a voucher submitted by the county or city claiming the amount owed it for such incarceration has been verified by the commission.
