AN ACT Relating to the study of switching costs for local telephone service; creating new sections; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The utilities and transportation commission shall conduct a comprehensive study of incremental telephone switching costs associated with local telephone service in the state of Washington.  Telecommunications companies shall provide the commission with all data the commission deems necessary to conduct this study.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The utilities and transportation commission shall report to the appropriate committees of the house of representatives and the senate no later than January 1, 1987, with the findings and recommendations regarding usage costs and the implementation of mandatory local measured telephone service.  The commission shall seek the cooperation of the joint select committee on telecommunications and all interested parties in conducting the study.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.     There is appropriated from the public service revolving fund to the utilities and transportation commission for the biennium ending June 30, 1987, the sum of twenty thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to carry out the purposes of this act.
