AN ACT Relating to school districts; adding a new section to chapter 28A.57 RCW; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature declares it is the policy of the state to:

          (1) Ensure, for the sake of educational excellence, that the electorate has the broadest possible field in which to choose qualified candidates for its school boards of first class districts;

          (2) Ensure that the opportunity to serve on school boards of first class districts be open to all, regardless of financial circumstances; and

          (3) Ensure that the time-consuming and demanding service as directors in first class districts not be limited to those able or willing to make substantial personal and financial sacrifices.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.57 RCW to read as follows:

          Each member of the board of directors of a first class school district having an enrollment of thirty thousand or more students shall receive compensation of two thousand dollars per month.
