AN ACT Relating to college entrance requirements; and adding a new section to chapter 28B.10 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.10 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) The following are required for admission to the state universities, regional universities, and The Evergreen State College:

          (a) Four consecutive years of English;

          (b) Three years of mathematics;

          (c) Three years of science, including at least one year of a laboratory science;

          (d) Three years of social science;

          (e) Two sequential years of a foreign language; and

          (f) One year of fine, visual, or performing arts.

          (2) The faculty of the state universities may establish additional requirements for their institution.

          (3) The requirements in this section shall not adversely affect or diminish institutional equal opportunity programs.

          (4) Each college and university shall reserve the authority to admit students with alternative sets of qualifications with the understanding that this authority shall be limited and not intended to circumvent the requirements outlined above.
