AN ACT Relating to automobile insurance; and adding new sections to chapter 48.19 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     Any schedule of rates or rating plan for automobile liability and physical damage insurance submitted to or filed with the commissioner shall provide for an appropriate reduction in premium charges for those insureds who are fifty-five years of age and older, for a three-year period after successfully completing a motor vehicle accident prevention course meeting the criteria of the department of licensing with a minimum number of hours determined by the department of licensing.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     All insurance companies writing automobile liability and physical damage insurance in this state shall allow an appropriate reduction in premium charges to all eligible persons subject to section 1 of this act.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.     Upon successfully completing the approved course, each participant shall be issued by the course's sponsoring agency, a certificate that shall be the basis of qualification for the discount on insurance.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 4.     Each participant shall take an approved course every three years to continue to be eligible for the discount on insurance.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 5.     Sections 1 through 4 of this act shall be added to chapter 48.19 RCW.
