AN ACT Relating to boards of regents and trustees of universities and colleges; and amending RCW 28B.20.105, 28B.30.120, 28B.35.110, and 28B.40.110.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

        Sec. 1.  Section 28B.20.105, chapter 223, Laws of 1969 ex. sess. and RCW 28B.20.105 are each amended to read as follows:

          The board shall organize by electing from its membership a president and an executive committee, of which committee the president shall be ex officio chairman.  The board may adopt bylaws or rules and regulations for its own government.  The board shall hold regular quarterly meetings, and during the interim between such meetings the executive committee may transact business for the whole board:  PROVIDED, That the executive committee may call special meetings of the whole board when such action is deemed necessary.  All official actions taken by the board or executive committee shall be fully reported in news release form and distributed to the press, including at least one daily newspaper of general circulation in each of the following cities:  (1) Seattle, (2) Spokane, and (3) Olympia.

 

        Sec. 2.  Section 28B.30.120, chapter 223, Laws of 1969 ex. sess. as amended by section 6, chapter 103, Laws of 1979 ex. sess. and RCW 28B.30.120 are each amended to read as follows:

          Meetings of the board of regents may be called in such manner as the board may prescribe, and a full meeting of the board shall be called at least once a year.  No vacancy in said board shall impair the rights of the remaining members of the board.  All official actions taken by the board shall be fully reported in news release form and distributed to the press, including at least one daily newspaper of general circulation in each of the following cities:  (1) Seattle, (2) Spokane, (3) Pullman, and (4) Olympia.

 

        Sec. 3.  Section 47, chapter 169, Laws of 1977 ex. sess. and RCW 28B.35.110 are each amended to read as follows:

          Each board of regional university trustees shall hold at least two regular meetings each year, at such times as may be provided by the board.  Special meetings shall be held as may be deemed necessary, whenever called by the chairman or by a majority of the board.  Public notice of all meetings shall be given in accordance with chapter 42.32 RCW.  All official actions taken by the board shall be fully reported in news release form and distributed to the press, including at least one daily newspaper of general circulation in each of the following areas:  (1) The city in the immediate vicinity of the regional university, and (2) Seattle.

 

        Sec. 4.  Section 28B.40.110, chapter 223, Laws of 1969 ex. sess. as amended by section 67, chapter 169, Laws of 1977 ex. sess. and RCW 28B.40.110 are each amended to read as follows:

          The board of The Evergreen State College trustees shall hold at least two regular meetings each year, at such times as may be provided by the board.  Special meetings shall be held as may be deemed necessary, whenever called by the chairman or by a majority of the board.  Public notice of all meetings shall be given in accordance with chapter 42.32 RCW.  All official actions taken by the board shall be fully reported in news release form and distributed to the press, including at least one daily newspaper of general circulation in each of the following cities:  (1) Olympia, and (2) Seattle.
