AN ACT Relating to special license plates; and adding a new section to chapter 46.16 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 46.16 RCW to read as follows:

          The department shall issue to the surviving spouse of any deceased former prisoner of war, if the spouse has not remarried, one set of special license plates for use on a personal passenger vehicle registered to that person.  The plates shall be issued without the payment of any fees, and shall be replaced by the department free of charge if they become damaged.  The plates shall remain with the surviving spouse, unless the spouse remarries, upon transfer or other disposition of the vehicle, and may be used on another vehicle registered to the surviving spouse in accordance with the provisions of RCW 46.16.595 for such transfers.

          The special plates shall be of a distinctive, suitable design approved by the director of licensing.
