AN ACT Relating to discrimination and affirmative action; creating a new section; and providing for submission of this act to a vote of the people.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     Executive order 85-09 prohibiting discrimination and establishing an affirmative action policy issued by the governor on December 24, 1985 is suspended and shall not take effect unless approved by the voters under section 2 of this act.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     Executive order 85-09, issued by the governor on December 24, 1985, shall be submitted to the people for their approval and ratification, or rejection, at a special election to be held in conjunction with the next succeeding general election to be held in this state, in the same manner as referendum bills are considered under Article II, section 1 of the state Constitution, as amended, and the laws adopted to facilitate the operation thereof.
