AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON NATURAL RESOURCES FEBRUARY 26, 1988

BACKGROUND:

Current law requires the Interagency Committee on Outdoor Recreation to prepare a comprehensive guide of public parks and recreation sites in the State of Washington.  The Committee is to determine the costs of providing and distributing the guide and pursue means of paying the costs of initial production.  The guide is to be sold for an amount to cover production and distribution costs, and the Committee may contract with a state or local agency or private firm for any part of production or distribution.

Sales of the guide produced in 1985 have been insufficient to recover its costs, and the Committee intends to absorb the remaining costs from the Committee's existing budget if sales of existing inventory are insufficient to cover production costs.  The Committee plans to produce an updated guide during the 1989-1991 biennium which will be provided to the public at no charge, if funds are appropriated for this purpose.

SUMMARY:

The Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation is no longer required to sell comprehensive recreational guides at a price that will pay for the guides' production and distribution costs.
