BACKGROUND:

The worker right-to-know legislation that was enacted by the 1985 legislature included provisions for a right-to-know advisory council.  The purpose of the council is to provide the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) with advice on implementation of the worker right-to-know program.  The council consists of 16 members that are appointed by the director of L&I. Membership includes representatives recommended by labor unions, agriculture, migrant labor, environmental organizations, public interest groups, chemical industries, community organizations, petroleum industries, fire fighters, business and trade organizations, small business, public health organizations, professional accident and safety organizations, technology based industries, and academic organizations.

The council is directed to meet regularly and to appoint a chair.

SUMMARY:

The director of the Department of Labor & Industries or the director's designee will serve as the nonvoting exofficio chair of the right-to-know advisory council.  The council must meet at least semiannually at the call of the chair.
