SENATE BILL REPORT
SB 5485
BYSenator Talmadge
Requiring repairmen and utility installers to specify their time of arrival.
Senate Committee on Commerce & Labor
Senate Hearing Date(s):February 12, 1987
Senate Staff:Jack Brummel (786-7428)
AS OF FEBRUARY 6, 1987
BACKGROUND:
The time lost in waiting for repairers, installers and contractors can result in substantial financial expense to consumers.
BACKGROUND:
Servicemen providing installation, repair or contractual services at a consumer's residence are required to specify the time which the service will be performed. Failure to specify the time of arrival and appear within one hour subjects the serviceman to civil liability of either $100 or the actual loss to the consumer. The consumer may deduct up to $100 from any amount owed instead of seeking civil liability.
