AN ACT Relating to teachers' retirement; and adding a new section to chapter 41.32 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 41.32 RCW to read as follows:

          Any member first employed on or before September 30, 1977, who has served as a member of the United States military, naval, or air service, who has been employed as a teacher overseas by the department of defense, or has been employed in a public school system of another state, may upon becoming employed or reemployed in the public schools, receive credit for two years of such service upon presenting satisfactory proof, and contributing to the annuity fund, either in a lump sum or installments, such amounts as shall be determined by the department of retirement systems.  A person may claim a maximum of two years credit under this section.  A person claiming credit under this section shall not claim credit under RCW 41.32.260, 41.32.300, or 41.32.320.

          (2) A member establishing credit under this section shall do so by June 30, 1992, or, if not employed on the effective date of this section, before June 30th of the fifth school year upon being employed or reemployed in the public school system in this state.
