AN ACT Relating to child day care; adding a new section to chapter 28B.50 RCW; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.50 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) The state board for community college education shall develop a program to establish and operate child day care facilities on or adjacent to each community college.  The facilities shall be operational no later than January 1, 1988.

          (2) The program shall permit private contributions.

          (3) Where practicable, the child day care facilities shall be available for use by children of night students.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     (1) The sum of one million five hundred thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1989, from the general fund to the state board for community college education for funding child day care facilities required by this act.

          (2) The funds appropriated by this section shall be available to the individual community colleges on a reimbursement basis.  No one community college may receive more than thirty thousand dollars.
