AN ACT Relating to the promotion of Washington health products and services; creating new sections; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature declares that:

          (1) The development and sale of Washington health products and services is a vital element in expanding the state economy.

          (2) The health resources industry in Washington state contributes substantial benefits to the economic base of the state and provides a large number of jobs and sizeable tax revenues to state and local governments.

          (3) The marketing of Washington state health resources domestically, and internationally, could provide an important stimulation to the economic strength of the state of Washington.

          (4) State government should play a significant role in the development and expansion of markets for health products and services.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     (1) The department of trade and economic development is directed to develop and promote means to stimulate the expansion of the market for Washington health resources and shall have the following powers and duties:

          (a) To develop a pamphlet for domestic and international circulation which will encourage the purchase of health products and services from the state of Washington;

          (b) To include in the pamphlet a comprehensive listing of products and services of Washington companies and health care providers which are exportable domestically and internationally; and

          (c) To distribute the pamphlets on the broadest possible basis through local and international offices of state agencies, business organizations, chambers of commerce, or any other means the department deems appropriate.

          (2) In carrying out these powers and duties the department shall cooperate and coordinate with other agencies of government, the private sector, and the health resources industry in Washington state.

          (3) This section shall expire June 30, 1989.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.     The sum of ten thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1989, from the general fund to the department of trade and economic development for the purposes of sections 1 and 2 of this act.
