AN ACT Relating to a spawning channel for salmon on the Skagit river; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The department of fisheries shall develop a plan for constructing and operating a spawning channel for salmon on the lower Skagit river.  The department shall be assisted in determining the location and use of the channel by the salmon enhancement advisory council provided in RCW 75.48.120.

          The plan shall be submitted for review to the natural resources committees of the senate and house of representatives by August 1, 1988.  The committees may make any recommendations they may have to the department on the plan within sixty days of receipt of the plan.

          Based on the plan developed under this section and any recommendations of the natural resources committees of the senate and house of representatives, the department shall construct the spawning channel and place it into operation by January 1, 1990.

          This section shall expire January 1, 1990.

 

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The sum of forty-eight thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated from the general fund to the department of fisheries for the biennium ending June 30, 1989, for the planning and construction of the spawning channel under this act.
