Resolving to name a Pierce County overpass after P.J. "Jim" Gallagher.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

Representative Jim Gallagher has represented the 29th legislative district in Pierce County since 1960, serving in the areas of energy, transportation, natural resources and on the House Rules Committee.  He was instrumental in securing the construction of the interchange at 72nd street and I-5 in the city of Tacoma.

 

The naming of bridges and highways is the prerogative of the Washington State Transportation Commission.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Washington State Transportation Commission is directed to begin proceedings to change the name of bridge number five/four hundred twenty-six across State Route Number 5 at 72nd street in Pierce County to the "P.J. Gallagher Overpass."

 

The dedication ceremony shall be on June 28, 1989, to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of his marriage to his wife, Mabel.

 

Suitably inscribed copies of this resolution shall be transmitted to the commission and to Representative Gallagher and his wife.
