BACKGROUND:

 

Food fish are those species of fish managed by the Department of Fisheries, and game fish are those species of fish managed by the Department of Wildlife.  These fish are defined in statute.

 

It is necessary to update the statutes containing scientific names of fish to conform to the accepted taxonomic nomenclature.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The scientific names of golden trout, cutthroat trout, and rainbow (steelhead) trout are updated to the current taxonomic standard.  It is clarified that the Atlantic salmon are classified as game fish only in the landlocked form.
