BACKGROUND:

 

Twenty-five percent of the x-ray machine inspections conducted by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) turn up machines or operators not in compliance with national guidelines for x-ray exposure.  X-ray facilities in hospitals and doctors' offices are currently inspected about once every three years.  Dentists' facilities are inspected about once every five years. 

 

Doctors and hospitals currently pay $225 per machine for a two year period.  Dentists pay $135.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Annual inspection of x-ray machines at medical and dental facilities is required.  Inspection of x-ray machines at other facilities is required once every three years.  Fees are to cover the cost of inspection.
