BACKGROUND:

 

The law prohibiting the stopping, standing or parking on a public roadway excludes transit vehicles which temporarily stop at marked transit stops to receive or discharge passengers.  Currently there is no similar exemption made for garbage and recycling vehicles collecting solid waste and recyclables at locations along a public roadway.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Solid waste or recycling company vehicles which must temporarily stop to collect solid waste and/or recyclables are exempt from the law prohibiting the stopping, standing and parking on a public roadway.
