If a graduate student in good standing plans to be away from the university and out of contact with the university faculty and facilities for a period of time, not to exceed four successive quarters except in the case of absence for military reasons, he or she may apply for on-leave status. Forms for this purpose and further information may be obtained from the departmental graduate program adviser.

A graduate student who is either registered or officially on leave for a given spring quarter and who does not register for the immediately following summer quarter is automatically on leave for that summer quarter.
