[ Filed October 16, 2006, 4:03 p.m. ]

Subject of Possible Rule Making: Commercial sardine rules.

Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 77.12.047.

Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: Issues on the timing of license renewals exist and the changes may facilitate a better time frame for renewals and notices; caps on tonnage available for reduction are an issue in the fishery and changes may provide for more complete utilization of the quota; and seasons, log books, by-catch and observer requirements need to be reviewed to meet industry and management needs.

Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: None.

Process for Developing New Rule:      Agency study.

Interested parties can participate in the decision to adopt the new rule and formulation of the proposed rule before publication by contacting Phil Anderson, Special Assistant to the Director, 600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98504-1091, phone (360) 902-2720.
