PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY
(Veterinary Board of Governors)
Subject of Possible Rule Making: WAC 246-935-060 Eligibility for examination as veterinary technician amendment to include Canadian Veterinary Medical Association approved programs.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 18.92.030.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: Veterinary technicians who seek credentialing through education must complete an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) approved program of two or more years. The AVMA has recognized the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) process for accreditation of Canadian veterinary technologist or technician programs. The AVMA recommends that boards recognize graduates of Canadian programs approved by the CVMA. Recognition of Canadian programs may provide easier mobility for graduates of those programs seeking licensure in Washington state. Current regulations do not recognize Canadian accreditation. Requirements for registration, including education, may need to be established in rule.
Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: None.
Process for Developing New Rule: Collaborative.
Interested parties can participate in the decision to adopt the new rule and formulation of the proposed rule before publication by sending written comments to Judy Haenke, Program Manager, P.O.
