Subject of Possible Rule Making: Child sexual abuse prevention in K-12 schools.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 28A.300.150.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: HB [SHB] 1539 (2018) (Erin's Law) authorizes the office of superintendent of public instruction (OSPI) to collect and disseminate to school districts information on, and curricula for, the coordinated program for the prevention of sexual abuse of K-12 students, child abuse, and neglect established in RCW 28A.300.160. OSPI is further authorized to adopt rules addressing the prevention of sexual abuse of students in K-12 and child abuse for purposes of curricula used in public schools.
Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: Washington state department of children, youth, and families.
Process for Developing New Rule: Early solicitation of public comments and recommendations respecting new, amended, or repealed rules, and consideration of the comments and recommendations in the course of drafting rules.
