SENATE COMMITTEE ON HUMAN SERVICES & CORRECTIONS

Majority Report:  That Substitute Senate Bill No. 6218 be substituted therefor, and the substitute bill do pass.

Signed by Senators Hargrove, Chair; Costa, Vice Chair; Franklin, Kohl-Welles, Long, Sheahan, Stevens and Zarelli.

Staff:  Jennifer Strus (786-7484)

Background:  Since its creation, the out-of-home placement chapter has been amended a number of times, occasionally without reference to other affected statutes.  The result of these amendments is to make the statute sometimes inconsistent or redundant and hard for practitioners to follow.

Summary of Bill:  Technical and clarifying changes, not substantive, are made to the family reconciliation services statutes.  Dated and outdated information is removed.  Cross references are corrected and some substantive provisions moved into sections where they more appropriately belong.

The language regarding the continuation of out-of-home placement is removed from one section and placed in another where it more appropriately belongs.

Fiscal Note:  Available.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
