HB 1394-S - DIGEST

(DIGEST OF PROPOSED 1ST SUBSTITUTE)

Revises threshold property values for crimes against property.

Directs the sentencing guidelines commission to conduct a study of threshold property values for crimes involving property. The commission shall: (1) Study the need for, and effect of, changes in threshold property values beyond those established in this act for crimes involving property; and

(2) Identify viable mechanisms for establishing a periodic review or adjustment of such values, and whether a particular mechanism should be recommended to the legislature and governor.

Requires the commission to report its findings and any recommendations to the legislature and the governor by December 1, 2004.

Expires July 1, 2005.
