Background: Commissioned officers of the Washington State Patrol (WSP) are part of the Washington State Patrol Retirement System (WSPRS). Members of the WSPRS contribute to the system at a rate of one-half of the adjusted total contribution rate or 7 percent plus 50 percent of contribution rate increases caused by any benefit improvements effective after July 1, 2007, whichever is less.

Summary of Bill: Beginning July 1, 2012, the member contribution rate for the WSPRS is 7 percent plus 50 percent of the contribution rate increase caused by any benefit improvements that become effective after July 1, 2012.

Staff Summary of Public Testimony: PRO: There are approximately 2000 people in the WSP retirement system. This bill will provide a predictable contribution rate for the troopers.
