HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4662, by Representatives Manweller and Warnick

     WHEREAS, The Cle Elum Public Library was established in the City of Cle Elum, Kittitas County, Washington by approval of the City Council on February 23, 1914, and the approval of Mayor W. F. Lewis on February 24, 1914; and
     WHEREAS, The Cle Elum Public Library has recognized the year 2014 as the year of the institution's one hundredth anniversary; and
     WHEREAS, A basic foundation of local communities has been the gathering place known as our library since our community was settled; and
     WHEREAS, The Cle Elum Public Library was relocated in a newly constructed building through funding bequeathed by Margaret Carpenter in 1978; and
     WHEREAS, The Cle Elum Public Library was renamed the Carpenter Memorial Library in recognition of the Carpenter family's bequest; and
     WHEREAS, The Carpenter Memorial Library has expanded over the years to meet the increasingly diverse cultural and educational needs of the community; and
     WHEREAS, The Carpenter Memorial Library currently serves 1,931 members of Cle Elum and the surrounding rural Kittitas County, Washington community; and
     WHEREAS, The Carpenter Memorial Library adds value to nearly every sector of the economy of Kittitas County through the cultural richness in a place that newcomers appreciate; and
     WHEREAS, The children of the community benefit through use of the library computers, the preschool story hour, and the summer reading program; and
     WHEREAS, The Carpenter Memorial Library will continue to adapt in order to meet the needs of the community through the next one hundred years;
     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the one hundredth anniversary of the Cle Elum Public Library.
