Background:
The Association of Washington Generals (AWG), established within the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, is organized as a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, corporation that formally recognizes individuals' outstanding service to the state. The organization brings those individuals together to serve as ambassadors of trade, tourism, and international good will. The AWG board includes the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Secretary of State who serve as non-voting members, and other designated officers and members.
Summary of Bill:
The Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Secretary of State must serve on the Board as voting members. Board membership is expanded to include three members appointed by the Senate, three appointed by Speaker of the House, and three by the Governor's Office. Membership terms and board governance expectations are specified.
The AWG must expand educational and employment opportunities for youth, veterans, and people with disabilities in Washington State. The AWG is no longer statutorily required to operate a statewide essay competition.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
