HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2017-4607, by Representatives Vick and Pike
WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Washington State Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and
WHEREAS, The Camas High School Papermakers completed their undefeated season and displayed extraordinary excellence in winning the 2016 Washington State 4A football championship for the first time in their school's history; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the AP's 2016 Washington State Coach of the Year, Jon Eagle, the Papermakers finished with the exceptional record of 14-0; and
WHEREAS, Senior Quarterback and the AP's Washington State Player of the Year Jack Colletto predicted the victory prior to the season and informed Coach Eagle of his intentions to bring home the state title; and
WHEREAS, In the first round of the 4A Playoff Tournament, held November 11, 2016, the Camas Papermakers defeated the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles 55-6; and
WHEREAS, In the quarterfinals of the 4A Playoff Tournament, held November 19, 2016, the Camas Papermakers edged out a 28-14 victory over the Skyline Spartans; and
WHEREAS, In the semifinals of the 4A Playoff Tournament, held November 26, 2016, the Camas Papermakers' high powered offense led the team to 45-21 victory over the Sumner Spartans; and
WHEREAS, On December 3, 2016, in front of hundreds of fans at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington, the Camas Papermakers defeated the Richland Bombers by a score of 24-14 to win the 4A state championship; and
WHEREAS, Quarterback Jack Colletto scored on a 34 yard touchdown run to increase the Papermakers' lead with 2:39 remaining in the game and then sealed the victory by intercepting the Bombers' quarterback's final pass; and
WHEREAS, Colletto finished the championship game with two touchdowns, one rushing and one throwing, and one interception on defense; and
WHEREAS, For their season, the Papermakers boast ten players: Michael Matthews, Cooper McNatt, Dylan Ingram, Dakota Napierkowski, Marcus Gray, Michael Boyle, Marshall McIvor, Tanner Howington, Cooper McNatt, and Jack Colletto to the first team of the Greater St. Helens League; and
WHEREAS, Senior Linebacker Michael Matthews earned the selection to the AP's all-state team;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the Camas High School Papermakers as the 2016 football champions of the 4A Division; applaud the team's historic accomplishments and contributions to student athletics and the community; commend the team's players, coaches, and staff for their hard work and dedication; and recognize students, alumni, and loyal fans for supporting the Papermakers on their successful quest to capture the team's first championship trophy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Camas High School Papermakers' football team and to head coach Jon Eagle.
