Background:

Duties of the Statute Law Committee.
The primary responsibilities of the Statute Law Committee (Committee) and the Code Reviser (Reviser) are to periodically codify, index, and publish the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and to revise, correct, and harmonize the statutes by means of administrative or suggested legislative action.  The Committee, or the Reviser with the approval of the Committee, must periodically make written recommendations to the Legislature concerning deficiencies, conflicts, or obsolete provisions in the RCW.

Summary of Bill:

Corrections are made to the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) that:

  • merge double amendments to RCW sections that originated from two separate 2020 bills, each enacted without reference to the other;
  • update and correct RCW citations impacted by the creation of a new RCW title related to environmental statutes; and
  • remove an obsolete provision.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Not requested.
Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
Staff Summary of Public Testimony:

(In support) The Statute Law Committee (Committee) is comprised of members from all three branches of government.  The Committee oversees the Code Reviser's Office, as well as the publication of the laws.  The Committee is directed by statute to bring legislation to correct technical deficiencies, conflicts, and obsolete provisions in the Revised Code of Washington.  This bill contains only technical corrections.
