PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

SUPERINTENDENT OF

PUBLIC INSTRUCTION

     Subject of Possible Rule Making: Chapter 392-120 WAC, Finance -- University of Washington transition school and early entrance program allocation.

     Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 28A.185.040.

     Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: This is a language amendment to an existing code requested by the University of Washington president. The changes will allow up to eighty students to enroll in the University of Washington's early entrance programs. This will increase the number of public school high school students from thirty to eighty. An additional program name, University of Washington Academy, will be included in the early entrance/transition school section of the WAC. Changes will also be made to clarify existing language.

     Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: None.

     Process for Developing New Rule: Early solicitation of public comments and recommendations respecting new, amended or repealed rules, and consideration of the comments and recommendations in the course of drafting rules.
