PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

LABOR AND INDUSTRIES

     Subject of Possible Rule Making: Safety regulations and fees for all elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators and other conveyances, chapter 296-96 WAC.

     Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: Chapter 70.87 RCW and chapter 98, Laws of 2002 (SHB 2629).

     Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The purpose of this project is to make changes resulting from legislation enacted in 2002 and make clarifying and housekeeping changes.

     Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: None.

     Process for Developing New Rule: The department will solicit input from the Elevator Advisory Committee. Other interested parties and the public may also participate by providing written comments or giving oral testimony during the public hearing process.
