Purpose of the Proposal and Its Anticipated Effects, Including Any Changes in Existing Rules: This proposal creates WAC 357-31-327 to support SSB 5511 that was passed during the 2007 legislative session. This bill requires employers to grant leave without pay to employees who are volunteer firefighters and are called to respond to a fire, natural disaster, or medical emergency.

Statutory Authority for Adoption: Chapter 41.06 RCW.

Statute Being Implemented: RCW 41.06.150.

Rule is not necessitated by federal law, federal or state court decision.

Agency Comments or Recommendations, if any, as to Statutory Language, Implementation, Enforcement, and Fiscal Matters: This addition is necessary to implement SSB 5511 which was passed during the legislative session.
