PROCLAMATION
THE GOVERNOR
WHEREAS, this event has caused damages to multiple
transportation infrastructures in excess of $7.3 million and
could rise; and
WHEREAS, the cumulative effects of flooding and saturated soil
conditions associated with the steady rainfall in western
Washington have resulted in mudflows and landslides across the
region. The following counties are currently experiencing
damage from these storm events: Pacific, Grays Harbor,
Clallam, Jefferson, Mason, Kitsap, Pierce, King, Skagit,
Thurston, Lewis and Spokane; and
WHEREAS, the National Weather Service forecast for Washington
State anticipates significant additional precipitation in the
next 10 days; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation is
seeking Federal Highway Administration resources to support
local officials in alleviating the immediate social and
economic impacts to people, property, and infrastructure, and
is assessing the magnitude of the event;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christine Gregoire, Governor of the state of
Washington, as a result of the above-described situation and
under Chapters 38.08, 38.52, and 43.06 RCW, do hereby proclaim
that a State of Emergency exists in Washington State and
direct the supporting plans and procedures of the Washington
State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan be implemented.
State agencies and departments are directed to utilize state
resources and to do everything possible to assist affected
political subdivisions in an effort to respond to and recover
from the events. Additionally, the Washington State
Department of Transportation shall coordinate all
event-related assistance to the affected areas.
