Notice of Interpretive or Policy Statement


     In accordance with RCW 34.05.230(12), following is a list of policy and interpretive statements issued by the department of social and health services (DSHS).

Division of Legal Services


     Document Title: # Memo 09-57.

     Subject: Nondurable MSE: Limitations on diabetic supplies, incontinent supplies, and gloves; discontinued coverage of bathroom equipment, compression garments, and blood pressure monitoring devices.

     Effective Date: August 1, 2009.

     Document Description: Effective for dates of service on and after August 1, 2009, DSHS will:

Implement new maximum allowable quantities for blood glucose test strips and lancets and add expedited prior authorization (EPA) for pregnant women with gestational diabetes;
Implement new limitations on incontinent supplies (briefs/pull-ups/liners);
Implement new limitations on sterile and nonsterile gloves and add EPA for nonsterile gloves for clients residing in an assisted living facility; etc.
