PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

YAKIMA VALLEY

COMMUNITY COLLEGE

     Subject of Possible Rule Making: Amendments to Yakima Valley Community College student records rules, chapter 132P-175 WAC.

     Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 28B.50.140.

     Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The college's rules regarding admissions and registration were last reviewed in 2003. In reviewing the rule, college staff has proposed to update the language to reflect current policies and procedures.

     Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: Yakima Valley Community College is subject to the rules and regulations administered by the state board for community and technology [technical] colleges and the United States Department of Education. These agencies operate on behalf of our state and federal legislative bodies; and communicate the state and federal educational needs. They gather data and knowledge from the state's community and technical college system for consideration in the development of these rules.

     Process for Developing New Rule:      Agency study.
