Purpose of the Proposal and Its Anticipated Effects, Including Any Changes in Existing Rules: This proposed rule clarifies the performance standards for educational interpreters for the deaf, with standards as adopted by PESB.
Reasons Supporting Proposal: This rule clarifies current policy. PESB sets standards for educational interpreters for the deaf. The standards adopted by PESB are those recommended by a stakeholder workgroup.
Rule is not necessitated by federal law, federal or state court decision.

NEW SECTION
WAC 181-82-127Educational interpreters.
(1) Educational interpreters for the deaf are required to meet the performance standards adopted and published by the professional educator standards board.
(2) Educational interpreters for the deaf who have not met the performance standards under subsection (1) of this section may provide or continue providing educational interpreter services to students according to the timelines and provisions under RCW
28A.410.271.
