PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY
DEPARTMENT OF
FISH AND WILDLIFE
[Filed August 23, 2021, 3:27 p.m.]
Subject of Possible Rule Making: Domestic sheep and goats on Washington department of fish and wildlife lands.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 77.04.012, 77.04.020, 77.04.055, 77.12.047, and 77.12.210.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: This rule is needed to prevent the spread of disease, including (Mycoplasma ovipneumonieae), to bighorn sheep from domestic sheep and goats on department lands. There is an existing threat on department land where pack goats are in close vicinity to wild bighorn sheep. The current threat of disease transmission could have dire impacts on state bighorn sheep populations.
Process for Developing New Rule: Agency study.
