PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY
STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Subject of Possible Rule Making: The state board of education (SBE) is reviewing chapter 180-51 WAC, High school graduation requirements, to implement recently passed legislation, correct references to law, and improve readability of the rule.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 28A.230.090, 28A.150.220(7).
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: SBE is reviewing chapter 180-51 WAC to make changes as necessary to implement recently passed legislation.
Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: Office of superintendent of public instruction.
Process for Developing New Rule: SBE will seek feedback on the rule making from partner agencies and educational advocacy organizations.
