Title or Subject: Medicaid State Plan Amendment (SPA) 25-0006 Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants.

Effective Date: July 1, 2025.

Description: The health care authority (HCA) intends to submit SPA 25-0006 to comply with SB 5184 establishing the profession of anesthesiologist assistant (AA) or certified anesthesiologist assistant (CAA). AAs/CAAs must be supervised by a licensed anesthesiologist and may assist in developing and implementing anesthesia care plans for patients, performing duties and responsibilities delegated by the supervising anesthesiologist.

SPA 25-0006 is expected to have no effect on the annual aggregate expenditures, reimbursement, or payment for this service. Other practitioner types are already approved to provide this service; adding another practitioner type will not affect expenditures, reimbursement, or payment.

SPA 25-0006 is in the development process; therefore, a copy is not yet available for review. HCA would appreciate any input or concerns regarding this SPA.
