Background:  In 1991, the Legislature enacted amendments to the cosmetology licensing statute.  The amendments required separate licensing of cosmetologists, manicurists, estheticians, barbers, and instructor-operators.  However, any salon/shop that performed more than one of these functions was required to be directly supervised by a licensed cosmetologist.

Summary of Bill:  A salon/shop must be operated under the management of a licensed cosmetologist, manicurist, esthetician, barber, or instructor-operator.

Fiscal Note:  Requested January 13, 1992.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

Testimony For:  This is a technical clean up bill.  It will simplify the implementation of the law.
