BACKGROUND:

 

Traffic safety education courses are offered in the public high schools.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Superintendent of Public Instruction is required to include in traffic safety education courses, information concerning the effects of alcohol and drugs on motor vehicle operators and the consequences of operating motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

SUMMARY OF PROPOSED SENATE AMENDMENT:

 

Private driver training schools are also required to include information concerning the effects of alcohol and drugs on motor vehicle operators and the consequences of operating motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

 

TESTIMONY FOR:

 

By providing education on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse on driving, driver safety is improved.
