Brief Description:  Increasing the tax levy for the veteran's assistance fund from one and one‑eighth to two cents per thousand dollars.

BACKGROUND:

 

Counties provide relief for indigent and suffering veterans and their families through the distribution of a veteran's assistance fund through a regular property tax levy.  These funds are administered by various veterans organizations in smaller counties and in larger counties the county government oversees distribution.  The counties must levy an amount not less than one and one-eighth cents per $1,000 of assessed value for this fund.  This amount is included within the $1.80 of regular property tax levies available to counties.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Counties must levy an amount no less than two cents per $1,000 of assessed value for the veteran's assistance fund.
