Hearing Dates:February 6, 1991

BACKGROUND:

Current law requires real estate brokers and salespersons to complete 30 clock hours of continuing education instruction every two years in courses approved by the director of the Department of Licensing, as a condition for renewal of their licenses.

A maximum of 15 clock hours of instruction taken beyond the 30 hours in two years may be used to meet the required course hours for the subsequent two-year period.  This coursework must be commenced within 36 months of the renewal date of the license.  Real estate licenses are renewed every two years.

SUMMARY:

The number of years given to brokers and salespersons for the completion of the required 30 hours of continuing education is increased from two to four years.  An additional 15 course hours taken beyond the 30 hours in four years may now be applied to a subsequent four-year period.
