BACKGROUND:
Under current law, districts receive their state apportionments as follows: 9 percent in September, October, December, January, February, March, and April; 10 percent in July and August; 5.5 percent in November and May; and 6 percent in June. The lower amounts in the fall and spring correspond with when districts receive special levy funds. Some school districts experience cash flow problems due to the fact that their apportionment is divided into varying installments.
SUMMARY:
School districts have the option of receiving their annual apportionment from the state general fund in 12 equal installments. School districts could continue to receive funds in proportional shares according to a schedule established in statute.
