SENATE COMMITTEE ON ENERGY & UTILITIES
Staff: Phil Moeller (786‑7445)
Hearing Dates:February 5, 1991
BACKGROUND:
Many counties throughout the state have recently experienced significant increases in the number of requests for building permits for new homes and other types of construction. Concern exists that such construction is taking place without adequate review and consideration by local officials of the needs for water and electricity to serve both existing and new consumers.
SUMMARY:
When an applicant for a building permit receives a letter verifying the existence of an adequate water supply, the letter shall also include a statement and evidence that providing the service to the building will not, under normal circumstances, adversely affect water service to the purveyor's existing customers.
An applicant for a building permit for a structure using electrical service is required to provide a written statement from the area electrical supplier stating that adequate service may be provided to the structure and will not, under normal circumstances, adversely affect electricity supply to existing customers.
