BACKGROUND:

 

State law requires motorists to travel on the right side of the road except when passing, traveling faster than other traffic, moving left for merging traffic, or preparing for a left turn.

 

The Department of Transportation is responsible for installing signs on state highways that remind motorists of this requirement.

 

SUMMARY:

 

In order to improve traffic conditions on the state's roads, the Department of Transportation must place more signs on multilane state and interstate highways that remind motorists to keep right except when passing.
